Clinical Professional Development Educator Home Care RN at Northwell Health

This Black History Month, Northwell recognizes the hardworking members of our Bridges BERG who dedicate time year round to help out with initiatives throughout the health system and into our communities. At Northwell, we stand united together, celebrating our differences and respecting them. We sat down with Helen White and Ralph Thomas to learn about their background, journey to becoming a leader, who inspires them and the importance of reigniting humanism through inclusion, dignity and respect. Surgical technologists have the unique opportunity to work with a nurse inside the operating room which can lead them to a career change like it did for Sypria Bernard, MSN, RN, CNOR. Throughout every step of his career, Edward Fraser has been known for his deep and abiding commitment to his family and to the many communities he serves. We sat down with Edward to talk about the work of Community Relations and Northwell’s EXPRESSIONS BERG.

As a peer advocate at Zucker Hillside Hospital, Danny Sosa is able to use his own experience to help participants in the behavioral health programs. For Nelson Martinez, a supervisor in Environmental Services at Plainview Hospital, a commitment to helping and protecting others led him to a lifelong career in healthcare and in the U.S. When Mystique Haynes received her license as a physical therapy assistant , it was a move that would direct her on a path toward a rewarding career here at Northwell Health. At Northwell Health, Holly Wagner has found both professional and personal support. As her career grew throughout her nine years here, so has her family – thanks, in part, to Northwell’s fertility benefits.

First-time marathoner Michael Goldberg, executive director of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, shared with us what inspired him to take up the challenge of giving back. Three senior leaders set up a sponsored bike ride from Northwell’s corporate office in New Hyde Park to Montauk, to raise funds for Northwell’s Employee Assistance Program, which helps employees and their families in times of need. For the third straight year, Northwell Health has been named one of America’s most diverse companies by Fortune magazine and the lone New York health care organization to make the 2019 list. This Black History Month we sat down with Kaye-Lani Brissett and Bernard Robinson to learn about their background, leadership journey, inspirations and the importance of reigniting humanism in healthcare.

Performs variety of other clerical functions such as filing of paper medical records, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, photocopying, answering phones, and assuring efficient flow of patients through the suite, etc. 4-7 years of technical experience and 0-2 years of leadership / management experience, required. Demonstrates sensitivity to ethical, cultural, and spiritual inclusion; engages in ethical decision-making; effectively facilitates group processes; follows regulatory requirements for health reporting. Performs the functions of an educator, facilitator, change agent, leader, consultant and researcher in area of expertise. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of orientation programs.

Since joining Northwell in 2008, Maxine Carrington has served in progressively responsible leadership roles and has successfully driven team member engagement and development at every layer of the health system. As always, Northwell levels up when it comes to standards for having a positive work environment. Northwell is proud to announce the launch of The Management Accelerator and the Executive Leadership Program in partnership with McKinsey and Company, which is designed to support the advancement of diverse leaders within an organization. More than 60 Northwell leaders will take part in a six-month mentorship program that will help them hone their leadership capabilities and management skills through expert coaching in support of achieving their C-suite professional aspirations.

As executive director of the Northwell Laboratories, Dr. Breining leads the talented team that coordinates laboratory testing among our Core Laboratory, Core Microbiology Laboratory, and 43 hospital laboratories.
